Amy Lee is referring to her messy kitchen, strewn with brushes, paint tubes, sponges, sculpting tools, random jewellery findings, loose pieces of clay, containers of diluted water, and paper towels adorned with colourful paint swaths, among other things. “It’s my home studio and I like to spread out when I’m being creative. Besides, I can always have my husband run out to get take-out if I’m not finished by 8 o’clock!”
Amy works with ceramics to produce one-of-a-kind jewellery, pottery and home decor. She also creates visual art using watercolour and acrylic paints, and enjoys experimenting with mixed media.
“I’ve always liked making things with my hands, whether I’m forming a ceramic bowl or rolling rice balls,” explains Amy, who regularly peruses the many galleries at Granville Island including her all-time favorite, The Federation of Canadian Artists. “I just love being there – I get to be surrounded by the most amazing art and live music, and the public market never fails to impress!”
A longtime Vancouver resident, Amy enjoys walking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family. Her two adult children are also actively involved in the arts: her daughter is a highly sought-after piano teacher in the Lower Mainland, and her son is an elementary and middle school music teacher based out of New York City. Amy is also the proud grandmother to a human granddaughter as well as an orange tabby cat named Cleo.

Over the years, my work has seen a constant process of change. My paintings have evolved from the initial focus on realism to a style I can only best describe as semi-abstract realism.
Amy feels incredibly honoured to be chosen to hold a solo exhibition at Newton Cultural Center, and to be featured in the November 2018 issue of SPOTLIGHT on the ARTS magazine.
